Demonstrate magnetic fields in an awesome way with these nano-scale particles!

Ferrofluids are composed of nanoscale particles (< 10 nanometers) of magnetite, hematite and other compounds containing iron, in a carrier fluid. It becomes strongly polarised in the presence of a magnetic field and produce some peculiar and incredible liquid formations.  Please note that the ferrofluid is NOT magnetic but only reacts to a magnetic field as it contains ferrous particles.

Our ferrofluid produce the most amazing spikey formations. The photos below were taken in our lab using two of our E14M neodymium magnets. (You do need a powerful magnet to get these results).

Age: Can be very messy so it is better only for middle school and older students as a hands-on or as a teacher demonstration for younger students.  They will all LOVE this.
